DJ Chipper

Funk soul brother with 18+ years behind the decks
If you’re wondering about the name Chipper, it’s a nickname Shawn picked up back in junior high and it stuck long before he ever stepped behind the decks. By the time he started performing professionally, using it as his stage name just made sense. It helps that the name suits him too. Some might say he really does have a chipper personality.
Shawn’s musical background runs deep. He started playing piano at five, picked up trombone at eleven, and taught himself guitar as a teenager. Music has been part of his life for as long as he can remember, and that broad foundation shows in the way he performs. Every bit of that training helped shape the DJ and musician he is today.
As a DJ, Shawn leans toward the funkier side of music. Horns, keys, deep bass lines and grooves with real movement are where he feels at home. He has played both keys and turntables in funk and jazz bands, which gives his sets a musician’s instinct and a real sense of flow. Whether the room calls for something smooth, soulful, upbeat or dancefloor ready, he knows how to build the right energy.
For Shawn, the most rewarding part of DJing is simple: seeing people smile and enjoy themselves. He believes great DJs are naturally social people who enjoy reading a room and understanding how a crowd moves. Being part of the reason people are having a great night is, in his words, good for the soul. The funk soul brother, really.
Whether he’s playing for a wedding, corporate event or celebration, Shawn brings experience, musicality and a calm confidence that helps people relax and enjoy the moment. He knows how to set a tone, build momentum and keep the room feeling just right from start to finish.
